Senior Year Planning Calendar

Summer

  • Prioritize college choices (top 10, top 5, etc.)
  • Determine deadlines for colleges and scholarships
  • Continue to visit colleges
  • Create/update your resume
  • Register for SAT/ACT if needed
  • Make sure senior course selections meet college expectations and each graduation requirement
  • Ask for recommendations from your school administrators, teachers, etc. if necessary for scholarships or college applications.

Early Fall

  • Meet with your faculty mentor to explore options to help narrow down your choices
  • Attend college fairs and meet with admissions officers
  • Use CFNC to apply to NC colleges and send transcripts
  • Use the Common App to apply to colleges outside of North Carolina
  • Start completing applications and essays
  • Submit transcript requests for your top colleges/universities
  • Request and collect recommendations
  • Start applying for scholarships
  • Meet early decision deadlines, if applicable
  • Keep making good grades

Spring

  • Make your final college decision
  • Continue to work hard. Despite admission to college, your grades count. Colleges can change their minds and rescind your admission for academic and/or behavioral reasons.
  • Continue applying for scholarships
  • Communicate with your new college to begin enrollment
  • Take AP/SAT Subject Tests, as needed
  • Request final transcripts be sent to your new college

Midyear

  • Verify that your application process is complete
  • Complete financial aid process and FAFSA
  • Continue applying for scholarships
  • Request midyear transcripts, as needed
